Comunidades Unidas

Serves the Latin immigrant community (including undocumented immigrants) living in Utah. Services provided include community involvement programs, food stamps/SNAP application assistance, specialized information and referral (systems navigator program), employment and labor law information, voter registration drives, smoking/vaping cessation, mammogram vouchers, sexuality/reproductive health education, and youth/student support groups. Phone line can also be used by Spanish speakers to ask questions and get help. Outside doors are usually kept locked, so clients should call ahead or knock if walking in.

Mammograms
Description:

Provides vouchers to uninsured women for mammograms and pap tests.

Eligibility:
Uninsured women 45 and over who last received a mammogram 2 or more years ago.

Description:

Provides support for individuals who want to quit using tobacco or vaping.

Sexuality/Reproductive Health Education
Description:

Provides sexual health education to interested adults.

Youth Enrichment Programs
Description:

Provides a youth group promoting civic engagement and education. Primarily focused on Latinx culture and community, activism, and voter education. They hold weekly meetings and host events. They primarily post information on their Instagram (@ourvoicescu).

Primarily for those between ages 15-19, but open to all ages.

Labor and Employment Law
Description:

Educates clients on their rights on topics like wage theft and work safety. Hosts Occupational Hazard and Safety information courses. Also provides Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for those in need.

Community Involvement Programs
Description:

Advocates to expand protections for undocumented workers, educate the public about legal rights in interacting with authorities, support undocumented students, and more. Provides Workers' Rights and Safety information and training.

Food Stamps/SNAP Applications
Description:

Assists clients in applying for SNAP benefits. They only assist with Medicaid applications if it accompanies a SNAP application.

Specialized Information and Referral
Description:

Serves as a system navigator for Latin immigrants to help them identify and connect with essential programs and services. The navigator follows up with the client, ensuring they received the needed services. The system navigator helps break down the language barrier that may prevent the client from receiving services.
