Area agency on aging that provides a wide range of community based services to senior citizens in Salt Lake County. Offers extreme heat cooling programs, home delivered meals, a senior ride program, long term care ombudsman services, in home respite care, Medicare information and counseling, caregiver support groups, specialized information and referral, and educational classes covering chronic disease self management, wellness, and nutrition.

Provides an online directory and printed book of public and non-profit services for older adults and caregivers in Salt Lake County.

Adult In Home Respite Care
Description:

Provides short term respite care to allow family and unpaid caregivers to receive a temporary break. Also provides education and support through and coaching.

Adult family members or caregivers providing care to an individual 60 years of age or older.

Wellness Programs
Description:

Provides a variety of education and exercise classes for seniors to stay active and healthy. Classes include walking, Tai Chi, yoga, fall prevention, and more.

Description:

Caregiver/Care Receiver Support Groups
Description:

Provides monthly meetings for caregivers to discuss an assigned topic for that month pertaining to care giving as well as a forum to meet with peers in similar circumstances and learn from one another. Topics include Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and more.

Senior Ride Programs
Description:

Provides transportation for seniors to vital medical appointments, including dialysis, chemotherapy, and physical therapy. Helpful if appointments are on Tuesdays or Thursdays

Eligibility:
Adults 60 years or older who live in Salt Lake County. Must lack other means of transportation. Appointments must be within Salt Lake County. Residents of a nursing home or hospice facility are not eligible.

M - F 8:30 am - 4 pm; 2nd Th 9 am - 4 pm

Call 14 days in advance for initial intake and subsequent scheduling.

Suggested donation of $3 for a one-way ride.

Long Term Care Ombudsman Programs
Description:

Advocates for the rights of individuals receiving long-term care in nursing homes and assisted living centers. Investigates complaints and can provide education on care issues and individual rights.

Chronic Disease Self Management Programs
Description:

Provides classes covering education for management of chronic diseases common in seniors. Specific programs are available for arthritis, diabetes, and chronic pain. Classes are offered virtually and in-person.

Description:

Provides home-delivered nutritious meals to homebound older adults. Meals can accommodate special diets and are available daily.

Adults 60 years or older who live in Salt Lake County. Must be homebound, unable to prepare own meals, and without family or other resources to help with meal preparation.
